With today's hectic lifestyles, more anglers find it difficult to make the time to go fishing or even to stay in touch with what's happening on the angling scene. SGS' principal aim is to provide anglers with accurate data such as water conditions, catch reports, weather forecasts etc along with subscribed access to a data base on techniques/methods for catching all gamefish found in the South of Ireland and some saltwater species.
We will be offering Anglers access to a series of programmes, giving anglers a chance to see fish being caught on the proposed techniques. Detailing info on tackle such as rods/lines, which flies to use etc. The series will cover all aspects of game fishing, from fly-fishing to spinning to deep trolling for Ferox Trout. Anglers are offered the use of an on-line fishing log, to record their catches through-out the season with photographs and comments etc giving the angler the ability at the click of a button to know how many fish of any given species was caught or as detailed as how many Salmon were caught on such a fly etc.
There are many rivers of note in the south of Ireland such as the Munster Blackwater, Bandon River, Kerry Blackwater, Caragh system to name a few. All of which provide great sport on a given day.
We are fortunate to have good runs of fish right throughout the season here in the south of Ireland. The river Laune as an example, in Kerry, will have fish in the system from opening day on January 17th and given good water conditions great sport can be had, though it is important to note that for the first couple of months of the season, large numbers of Kelts can be found in the river.
The River Laune in Springtime with high water is a large river and needs to be tackled with double handed fly rods, sinking lines and large tube flies or alternatively heavy spinning gear or worming when allowed.
