About this river:
Name:River Lee
Type:river
Water summary:The River Lee rises in the mountains of west Cork near Gouganbarra and flows in various forms to meet the sea at Cork City Harbour. The Lee system is large containing several tributaries and two resevoirs giving it a catchment area of approx 1300 aquare kilometers.
Comments:The Lee system comprises of the river Lee itself though since the Electro Dams were constructed in the 1950s, we now have a two reservoirs interposed on the system.
The first being Carraigadrohid reservoir east of Macroom with the second Inniscarra reservoir approx 13 kilometers west of Cork city.
The system has several tributaries most of which contain good numbers of small and some not so small brown trout.
The Season starts on February 1st until September 30th for Salmon and from February 15th until September 30th for Brown Trout.
The Lower River Lee below Inniscarra has the best Game fishing in the system, with Salmon entering the river in good numbers from mid march onwards, right up until the end of the season given good water levels.
Brown Trout fishing is also excellent, particularly with a small dry fly from april onwards. These fish require a light line approach with even lighter tippets, though make sure you have a good disc reel with plenty of backing ! My best Brown trout for 2004 was a little of 5lbs and there are fish double that size present.

Innicarra & Carraigadrohid Reservoirs both hold good numbers of Pike into the twenties, with the odd larger specimen.
There is plenty of bankside access and a boat may be launched/moored with a permit from the ESB.
Fly-fishing, spinning & trolling provide excellent sport for the Pike angler.
Trout can be found in these reservoirs, though normally a little thin on the ground, certain areas at cetain times of the year can provide excellent fishing with some of the larger reservoir trout often into double figures.
The River Lee System has many tributaries throughout, all holding good stocks of Brown Trout though some will be on the small size, some of the larger tributaries such as the Sullane hold good numbers of larger fish, well worth searching for.
