Good runs of Grilse are starting to show up in most of the major systems here in the south now. The River Lee has seen some good catches over the past 10 days. With good water levels catches will only improve as we head into July. Fly-fishing seems to be doing most of the damage with patterns in the 10 – 12 range being most effective – though be sure to use a sink tip. The Munster Blackwater is continuing it’s own trend with good numbers of larger fish still running and the Grilse run starting to kick off. The Blackwater has had some excellent fishing over the past two months, producing good numbers of Salmon when most of the other rivers in the south were fishing quite poorly. There is clearly a rise in the number of larger fish in the mid teen range being caught- it’s great to see the return of these MSW fish. Water levels are perfect on the Blackwater at the moment and where I’ll be this weekend if I get the chance. There are reports of fish being caught on the Laune and lake system above – The Grilse run has started though the odd larger fish are still being caught. Tightlines.
