With some very hot weather over the last few weeks, water levels on all our rivers have dropped back to sumer levels. Salmon are still continuing to run though they are somewhat harder to tempt. Fishing morning and evening giving best results. The Laune is still a great bet particularly the lower stretches just after hightide with fresh running fish, small flies fished on a sink tip down to a size 12. The Lee and Blackwater are also producing good fish, though again it's the Lower stretches that are the most productive. I fished the Roxborough Fishery(Clonav Flyfishing Centre beat) on the Suir for the first time on the previous week, which is some of the best flywater I have seen. Andrew Ryan has done some brilliant work to the beat. Fishing for just a few hours accounted for a fish of 15lbs which had been in a while and a smaller fresh fish which I lost, certainly worth a return trip. With only 3 weeks left in the season, one should get out and make the most of it ! Tighlines
