"...The drift nets may be gone, but we Anglers must still play an ongoing part in the conservation of these fish...."

With water levels now down to Summer levels, on all rivers the fishing has slowed down somewhat, though fish are still being caught on a daily basis. The river Lee is producing some good fish mainly in the lower stretches, just above the tide. The Munster Blackwater has a lot of Salmon in the Lower stretches, though fish are reluctant to take other than a shrimp, still some good fish are being caught. The Laune is at low summer level, though fresh fish are still coming of the tides, and can be readily caught, though morning and evening seem to be best as the bright sunshine of recent weeks and low clear water do not make for the best taking conditions. The is some rain due in the later half of this week, which may improve water levels. This could give rise to some excellent sport for the remaining twelve days of the season. On a conservation note, fishing at this time of year, you will obviously catch some Salmon that are starting to don their Autumn colours. The Eggs and milt in these fish will be developping in preparation for spawning later on. These fish should be returned and handled with care. The drift nets may be gone, but we Anglers must still play an ongoing part in the conservation of these fish.
