Firstly I must apologise for the lack of reports over the first few weeks of the season, but things have been somewhat hectic gearing up for the new season and getting everything in place, though normal service will resume from now on with continuous reports on the fishing and water conditions. I also intend to write an article on shooting heads versus mid/long belly spey lines and the advantages/disadvantages of both. This will be posted in the posted in the techniques section of the website, though give me a week or so as I need to get certain photographs first. With the 2008 Salmon season well underway now, a state of continuous high water has been with us since day one. The dry weather over the last week has finally seen the rivers coming into good fishing order. There have been approx. 15 Springers caught between Beats 1 & 2 on the Laune and Lough Leane. Spring fish have been seen running hard on the Blackwater(having seen a fine fish myself in the Woodpool on the Ballyhooly beat of the Blackwater Lodge. And the First fish being caught this Sunday last. I have yet to hear of any Springers being caught of the River Lee. I'll be out there myself on Sunday so I'll keep you posted on that score, though traditionally it's mid March before the Main Spring run starts with just the odd fish about in the opening weeks. With water levels dropping back and fine weather forecast for the remainder of the week, all rivers should be in good fly-fishing condition by next week. The Laune is still going to be the best chance of a Spring Salmon at the moment, though I think the Blackwater will produce a few in the next week or so.
