With reasonable numbers of Salmon around, fishing is proving difficult. Both the lower Section of the River Lee and the middle/upper beats on the Balckwater (Fermoy - Mallow) have good numbers of Salmon, but they are proving very difficult to catch and seem disinclined to take. I had two fish of the Weir Pool on the Lee over the last five days, but I had to put the hours in. Both fish were caught stripping back flies through the slower water at the back of the runs around the island. I fished two beats on the Blackwater today, though I saw and met no fish, but then only a couple of beats up river there were fish in evidence but were unwilling to take. I think all the rivers could do with a good flood at this stage to bring more fish in a liven thing up somewhat. You may not note the attached photograph showing various Salmon flies. I took these photographs in direct sunlight and then removed various colours from the spectrum. Mkes you wonder just how do Salmon see our flies. I thin that in dull weather, most flies would appear rather dull giving more of an impression and silhouette then any real colour unless the fly is being fished right down at the Salmons level. Bright conditions might be a different story though. I suppose the old adage rings true, "Bright fly on a bright day & a dark fly on a dark day" Tightlines
