"... caught and released 8 Salmon..."

With Low water conditions on most of our rivers, things are proving somewhat difficult for Salmon fishing at the moment. We could really do with a good flood. Though as I look out at blue skies and temps in the 20s, there's not much chance of that at the moment. However the River Lee is still having the odd rise in water levels, thanks to water being released from the Dam at Inniscarra, with good numbers of fishing running when this happens. Paul Hanley and I timed it well over two days last week, and caught and released 8 Salmon over the two days. Five of the fish were caught spinning in the highwater and the other 3 being caught on the fly in normal water levels in the mornings. These fish were in the 6 - 10lbs category. The Lower Laune and lough Leane are also producing fish and large fish at that, with fish into the mid teens. Sport on the Munster Blackwater is patchy at best, though I would think that an early morning session on some of the beats between Fermoy & Mallow would yield a fish or two. Until we get more rain fishing will be difficult, especially while this hot sunny weather continues. Concentrate on mornings & evenings for the best chance of a fish. Tightlines
