"...... we caught approx 40 trout between us ......"

Anglers: Kieran Conlon & Paul Hanley

A great day’s fishing, the high winds from the last 48 hours have really stirred up the lake and the Trout. Fly-fishing mainly around the central Islands such as Browns/Victoria and down to the mouth of the river, we caught approx 40 trout between us of which 8 were over 12 inches with one fish reaching 13. 99% of the trout were all over the ten inches and all these fish were taken on sedge patterns of various sizes and hues.
Conditions were excellent in the morning with the wind coming out of the Bog/Ross castle shoreline giving excellent drifts past the islands. There was what I call a lovely rolling Corrib wave and the trout were right up on the surface feeding actively.
Great fishing should be had for the next few weeks.
While there was plenty of sedge activity, no up-wings were seen and no sign of any mayfly, though it’s still early!
Most of the fish were taken before lunchtime with the larger wave as apposed to the afternoon, which had a small ripple and bright sunshine.
